Black Knights Sweep Niagara in Doubleheader

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Army West Point softball team won both games in its doubleheader against Niagara on Monday. The Cadets (13-9) claimed the first game 12-1 in five innings, then topped the Purple Eagles 10-1 in the second game, which was also decided in five innings.

ARMY NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS
- Nine different members of the team registered a hit in the contest, with five having multi-hit games.
- Leading the way were Alicyn Grete and Emily Ballesteros with three hits apiece.
- Ballesteros also had a season high three runs batted in.
- Grete blasted her second home run of the season.
- Grete now owns a 16-game hit streak.
- Jolie Duong sent her third homer of the season over the fence.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cadets wasted no time getting on the board with Grete blasting a lead off solo homer. In the next at bat, Duong went yard to make the score 2-0. Army would add one more run before the end of the first inning, with Ally Snelling scoring on an RBI single off the bat of Ballesteros.
- The Black Knights built their lead to four runs in the bottom of the second with Grete scoring her second run of the contest thanks to an RBI double from Taylor Drayton.
- The Purple Eagles loaded the bases in the top of the third, but Grete and the Black Knights were able to get out of a jam unscathed.
- Army added two more runs in the bottom of the third off a 2 RBI single from Livingston, which made the score 6-0.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the Black Knights loaded the bases with no outs. Ballesteros scored two runners to make the score 8-0 on a single to center field.
- In the next at bat, Megan Muffett hit in Snelling with an RBI single to left field. Ballesteros later scored off a single from Brook Mitchell to give Army the 10-0 lead.
- A 2 RBI single from Grete brought home both Mitchell and Muffett and increased Army's advantage to 12 runs.
- Niagara got one run back in the top of the fifth, but the Cadets shut down any hopes of a rally to claim the front end of the doubleheader.

ARMY NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS
- Duong had three runs batted in, which matched her season high.
- Taylor Livingston and Duong were the two members of the team that had multi-hit games.
- Maddie Wilkes scored a season-high two runs.
- Emily Iannotti picked up the win on the mound to improve to 6-3 on the season. She dealt all five innings and issues five strikeouts.
- With the win, Army has matched its longest winning streak of the season with four consecutive triumphs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights again used a strong start to power past the Purple Eagles in the later game with a seven-run inning in the bottom of the first.
- Livingston was brought home on an RBI double off the bat off Duong, who later scored off an RBI double from Ballesteros to make the score 2-0.
- After Snelling scored on a bases loaded walk, Peters cleared the bases with a 3 RBI double, which gave Army the 6-0 lead.
- Peters would go on to score thanks to an RBI single from Livingston to make it 7-0 in favor of the Black Knights.
- Army built its lead up to 10-0 by the end of the third. Wilkes scored on an RBI double from Kaci Donaldson to make it 8-0. Then, Peters and Grace Snyder scored on a 2 RBI double off the bat of Duong.
- Niagara again added a run late in the game, but the Black Knights were able close out strong to secure their fourth straight win.
