Duong with 2-Hit Shutout in Cadets’ Win over RMU

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Jolie Duong had a dominant performance on the hill in Army West Point softball's 3-0 win over Robert Morris at the Clearwater Spring Break Invitational on Sunday. The sophomore from Houston, Texas, hurled a two-hit shutout and struck out eight batters, while allowing no walks.

ARMY NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS

Duong allowed just two baserunners – neither of which advanced past second base.
Her eight strikeouts matched her career high, which she previously set against Monmouth on March 15, 2019.
This also marked her first career complete game shutout.
In addition to her success on the mound, she was the only player in the contest to record a multi-hit game. This represented her third multi-hit game of the season.
Ally Snelling drove in two runs to improve her season RBI total to 20. The Las Vegas, Nev., native is now up to 60 career runs batted in.
This was Army's first shutout win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The contest proved to be a pitchers duel in first few innings of play. In the first three frames, Robert Morris' Taryn Miller was the only member of either team to register a hit. Not only was she the only player with a base knock in the game, but she was also the only baserunner the contest had seen.
That would change in the top of the fourth with Army's bats coming to life. Duong broke her counterpart's no-hit bid with a one-out single. Then in the next at bat Drayton added another hit with a single up the middle. The two would come around to score on 2 RBI single to center field off the bat of Snelling, which put the Cadets ahead 2-0.
Snelling would come around to score in the next at bat after Madi Gilmore reached on a error by the Colonials second baseman.
From there, Duong and the Black Knights' defense retired 12 of the next 13 Robert Morris batters.
