Sullivan Receives At-Large Bid to NCAA Tournament
March 10, 2020 | Wrestling
WEST POINT, N.Y. - Sophomore Ben Sullivan will make his first collegiate appearance at the NCAA DI Wrestling Championships after receiving an at-large bid in the 285lb weight class Tuesday afternoon. The New Paris, Ohio native will join six other Black Knights in Minneapolis, Minn. in two weeks, including Trey Chalifoux (125), Markus Hartman (157), Cael McCormick (165), Ben Harvey (174), Noah Stewart (184) and J.T. Brown (197). This is the second consecutive season and only the third time in program history that the Black Knights will have seven wrestlers competing at the national tournament. The only time the team has sent more than seven was in the 1967-1968 season when they sent eight.Â
Sullivan capped off a successful regular season with a 16-9 record, amassing five falls, two tech falls and one major decision. He currently holds a 37-22 record through 55 career appearances. The sophomore entered the conference championship last weekend coming off a big win against Navy, where his 1-0 triumph over Riley Smith in the 285 bout secured the Black Knights a 16-15 victory. Sullivan and Smith met again in the opening round of the conference championship where Sullivan picked up a 10-2 major decision to advance to the quarterfinals. Unfortunately shortly into the second matchup, Sullivan suffered an injury that forced him to forfeit, and he will now be looking to make a strong comeback at the national level.Â
The Black Knights will compete Mar. 19th - 21st at the U.S. Bank Center in Minneapolis, Minn. For more information, you can visit https://www.ncaa.com/sports/wrestling/d1.
