SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 7 Army West Point men's lacrosse team fell to No. 5 Syracuse Sunday afternoon by a 9-7 score.Â

The Black Knights led for the first three quarters, but the Orange closed out the game with four scores to clinch the victory.Â

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ Â
- The Black Knights dominated on both sides of the ball in the first half taking a 5-1 lead after the first 30 minutes of action.Â
- Miles Silva scored the first goal of the game with 6:32 on the clock off a quick stick from Brendan Nichtern.Â
- Syracuse evened the score at the 2:50 mark, but Sean O'Brien finished low off a Nichtern feed with 29 seconds to go in the first quarter to put Army ahead 2-1.Â
- To start out the second quarter the Cadets capitalized on a one-minute penalty on the Orange.Â
- Jacob Morin fired one high for a man-up score thanks to a pass by Nickolas Edinger.Â
- Nichtern posted back-to-back goals in a three-minute span to give Army a 5-1 advantage with 1:13 to go in the first half.Â
- The first was a transition goal set up by a Wyatt Schupler save and a ground ball from Tom Rigney.Â
- The Orange capitalized with the last possession of the half though and scored an unassisted goal to cut Army's lead to 5-2.Â
- This sparked a 4-0 run by Syracuse to tie the game at 5-5 with 10:09 to go in the third period.Â
- Silva got Army back on track though to cap the third quarter with a score assisted by Connor DeWitt.Â
- Gunner Philipp charged down the alley and netted a low skidding shot with 14:13 left in the game.Â
- Syracuse bounced back to knot the score at 7-7 with two goals spaced 40 seconds apart.Â
- The Orange then took their first lead of the game with 5:46 on the clock thanks to Jamie Trimboli's fifth score of the contest and then charged ahead 9-7 a minute later to finish the game.Â
HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Nichtern finished the game with two goals and two assists for four points.Â
- The sophomore has jumped up to 106-career points and is tied for 29th all-time.Â
- Nichtern boasts 67 assists in his two years of playing for the Black Knights. He is now ranked 12th in Army's all-time lists jumping Dave Reeves '79.
- Silva had two goals in the contest as well.Â
- The senior attackman has garnered at least two goals in the last three games.Â
- O'Brien, Morin and Philipp were also goal scorers for Army today.Â
- The Black Knights had five of their seven goals assisted today.Â
- Apart from Nichtern's two helpers, DeWitt, Rigney and Edinger also recorded assists today.Â
- Rigney's was his first of the season and the third in his career.Â
- Schupler had a standout day for the Cadets tying his career-high saves with 16. The sophomore notched 11 in the first half alone.Â
- Schupler also recorded a career-high four ground balls on the day.
- Defensively, Marcus Hudgins forced a team-high two turnovers. He picked up four ground balls as well.Â
- Anthony George and Liam Davenport also contributed three ground balls apiece.Â
- The Black Knights caused seven Syracuse turnovers, while only five of Army's were forced.Â
- Drake Porter for Syracuse made a career day with 18 saves and three ground balls.Â
- Army is now 2-1 against ranked opponents this season.Â

- The seventh-ranked Black Knights open Patriot League play next Saturday with a home contest against Holy Cross.
