Strong Offensive Display Leads Cadets Past Dartmouth, NC Central

In the first contest, Army used a six-run inning in the second and a five-run inning in the sixth to put away the Big Green (1-2). The second game against Eagles (0-6) was much tighter through the first few innings, but Army's bats came to life in the later portion of the contest with a combined total of 10 runs in the fourth and fifth.

HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Army had a total of four different players record multi-hit games: Megan Muffett, Emily Ballesteros, Taylor Drayton and Maddie Wilkes.
- Wilkes was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate and had one RBI. Entering the contest, she had two hits in the four other games she had seen action in.
- Leila Hurst registered 2 RBIs, which marks a new high for the freshman.
- In total, the team had 16 hits come from 11 different players.
- Taylor Livingston collected her first career triple.
- On the mound, Alicyn Grete pitched 6.0 innings allowing four earned runs to pick up her second win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights wasted little time jumping to an early lead, putting up six runs in the bottom of the second. Army started off its second inning barrage with a bases clearing triple from Livingston to push ahead 3-0. Livingston came around to score in the next at bat with Grete hitting an RBI base knock.
- Muffett hit home Grete with and RBI single up the middle, which gave the Black Knights the 5-0 lead. Army later added its sixth run of the inning with Mitchell scoring after Snelling reached on an error by the second baseman.
- The Big Green got two runs back in the top of the third with a home run off the bat of Schae Nelson to make the score 6-2.
- Wilkes had an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to score Sage Peters and make the tally 7-2 in favor of Army.
- Though in the top of sixth, Dartmouth whittled Army's lead down to three runs with consecutive homers.
- Army answered back with six runs in the bottom half of the inning to claim the win.
- Drayton hit home Muffett with an RBI single to right field to make the score 8-4. Army then tacked on two more runs on a 2 RBI single from Hurst through the left side which scored Ballesteros and Drayton. Hurst would later score on a fielder's choice off the bat of Livingston to make the score 11-4. Then, Blake Ronning scored the winning run off an RBI single to center field from Kelsey Taylor.

HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Six players finished with multi-hits contests, as the Black Knights combined for 15 on the day.
- Grete improved her hit-streak to 10 games.
- Newbary allowed just two hits in five innings of action, striking out nine batters.
- The pitcher also garnered two runs on two hits while also producing two RBIs. Newbary recorded her first career home run with a two-run shot to center field.
- Snelling notched three hits and three RBIs against the Eagles on two doubles and a single. The Las Vegas, Nev., native is now up to 13 RBIs on the season, which leads the team.
- Muffett posted a game-high eight putouts, while Drayton recorded three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights came out of the gate with a 2-0 lead after the first two innings. Snelling got thigs started in the top of the first for Army with a single up the middle to send Grete home. In the second, Grete recorded an RBI off a single to left field to score Drayton.
- The Eagles notched their only run in the game in the third off an RBI double from Tamiera Sanchez which scored Jacobia Johnson.
- Army bounced back though with 10 runs over the next two innings to close out the game.
- Livingston started the offensive production in the fourth with a 2 RBI single to the right side to make the score 4-1. She would come around to score on an RBI single from Jolie Duong. Snelling later hit home Duong with an RBI double to give the Black Knights the 6-1 lead.
- In the fifth, Newbary belted a two-run homer over the center field fence to push Army ahead 8-1. Later in the inning, Mitchell scored Livingston with an RBI single to make the score 9-1. Mitchell crossed the plate on an RBI double from Snelling which also advanced Duong to third. In the next at bat, Ballesteros cleared the bases with a 2 RBI single to make the score 12-1.
UP NEXT
- Army will close out the Charleston Invitational Sunday with a game against Charleston Southern. The game will begin at 1 p.m.
