Army Claims Four of Five Patriot League Weekly Awards

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - For the second week in a row, the Army West Point men's lacrosse team won a majority of the Patriot League weekly honors.
Wyatt Schupler and Marcus Hudgins repeated as Goalie of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, while Jacob Morin and Stevie Grabher were also recognized as Rookie of the Week and Faceoff Specialist of the Week, respectively.
The Black Knights improved to 3-0 on the season after a convincing 15-4 win over Rutgers, a nationally ranked opponent, over the weekend and a 19-1 victory last Monday with two days to recover from the season opener.
Schupler played lights out yet again for Army with a 1.50 goals against average on the week and a .900 save percentage. The sophomore made 16 saves in the team's dominating win over #19/20 Rutgers allowing just two goals in the contest. He and the Black Knights' defense held the fourth-ranked Rutgers' offense (averaging 18.5 goals per game heading into Saturday) to just four goals, marking the lowest offensive output for the Scarlet Knights since April of 2012.
The Pont Vedra, Fla., native added two saves opposite the Highlanders while allowing no goals. Through the first three games, Schupler leads the nation with a .838 save percentage and is second in GAA at 2.71 with two wins over nationally ranked opponents. The Black Knights have outscored their opponents 51-9 in 2020 and have allowed just one man-up score.
Hudgins also repeats this week after helping Army's defense hold NJIT and #19/20 Rutgers to a combined five goals. The sophomore totaled four ground balls and added five caused turnovers.
Grabher continued to excel for the Black Knights at the faceoff x, especially in Saturday's game against #19/20 Rutgers. He went 12-for-16 (.750) with 12 faceoff wins coming consecutively. He set a new career high in ground balls against the Scarlet Knights as well at nine. The freshman finished the week 22-for-28 (.786) and added 15 ground balls, a goal and two assists.
Grabher netted his first career goal against NJIT, while adding an assist in each of the contests to go along with one caused turnover. This season, Grabher ranks second in the nation for rookies at the x with a .674 winning percentage and is 10th overall.
Last but not least is Morin who is recognized as the rookie of the week. He exploded offensively for Army in a 2-0 week with his big game coming opposite #19/20 Rutgers. The freshman registered eight goals on 11 shots this week including a hat trick against NJIT and a career-high five goals versus the nationally ranked Scarlet Knights.
The Auburn, N.Y., native notched three ground balls against Rutgers and added another versus NJIT to total four on the week. Rutgers had allowed just 8.0 goals per game before facing the Black Knights.
Army heads to Marist on Tuesday to face their Hudson Valley rival and NCAA Tournament competitor before trekking north to take on No. 5 Syracuse on Sunday.
