February 12, 2020 | Women's Lacrosse
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's lacrosse team opened its 2020 campaign with a 16-4 home victory versus Hudson Valley rival Marist on Wednesday afternoon at the historic Michie Stadium.
Defense was the story against the Red Foxes (0-2) as the Black Knights (1-0) did not allow a single second-half goal. Army led 8-4 at the half and did not let up the defensive intensity. The Cadets caused six turnovers in the final stanza, while Maddie Burns recorded three saves in between the pipes.
The Black Knights were firing from all cylinders on the offensive side of the ball as six different Cadets found the back of the net in the win. Caroline Raymond, the reigning Patriot League and ECAC Rookie of the Year, kicked off her sophomore season by tying her career high with a five-goal effort on just seven shots. The Mahopac, N.Y., native added two assists, three ground balls and two caused turnovers to her stat line.
Jackie Brattan showcased her abilities on the scoring end as well, finishing with four goals to pair with two assists. Rilee Scott was the third cadet to record a hat trick after she netted three straight goals in the second half. The senior needed only five shots to tally her trio of goals.
In her collegiate debut, Kathleen Sullivan showed why she was in the starting lineup after she tallied four points on two goals and two assists. Cameron Manor and Anna Orlando also contributed in the scoring column with one goal apiece.
