Black Knights Cruise to 16-7 Road Victory at Columbia

NEW YORK – The Army West Point women's lacrosse team took the challenge of its first road test of the year head on and captured a 16-7 victory against Columbia on Saturday.
Jackie Brattan paced the Black Knights' (2-0) offense against the Lions (0-1), posting a game-high six points on five goals and an assist. With her six-point effort, the junior attack became the fifth cadet in program history to record 100 career points. She additionally added six draw controls and a ground ball to her stat line.
Samantha Stewart and Cameron Manor also pitched in heavily on the offensive end. The duo combined for six goals after putting in three apiece. Stewart also logged five draw controls and a career-high seven ground balls.
Megan Raftery added two scores, while Taylor Andrews, Caroline Raymond and Kathleen Sullivan each tallied a goal. Andrews and Sullivan both notched two assists and were responsible for four of Army's six helpers in the win.
Defensively, the Black Knights held their second straight opponent to single-digit goals. Raftery and Leslie Lewis each had two caused turnovers, while Army totaled nine on the afternoon as a team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights were red hot from the start and Army took advantage of a Columbia turnover in the opening minute. Brattan made the Lions pay after she found the back of the net 57 seconds into action.
- Columbia evened the score at 1-1 with 27:15 on the clock, but Army responded with five-unanswered goals over a 15-minute stretch. During the run, Brattan recorded two goals to pick up her hat trick.
- The Lions countered with a 3-0 run before Brattan, Manor and Raymond each scored in the closing 4:45 to give the Cadets a 9-4 lead at the half.
- The two sides traded goals for the opening 19 minutes and the Black Knights were up 12-7 before closing out the game with four straight scores in the final 10:55 of play to secure the road win.
