December 15, 2020 | Hockey
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Army West Point hockey was defeated by Atlantic Hockey foe AIC 4-1 at MassMutual Center on Tuesday.
AIC was on the attack from the start, jumping out to a 3-0 lead through two periods. Daniel Haider got the Cadets on the board late in the third, but Army could not build on the momentum as the Yellow Jackets closed the game out with an empty net goal in the final minute.
"We had a late push, but we learned tonight that you need to be good for 60 minutes, not just 25." Head Coach Brian Riley said.
The Black Knights showed fight in the third period, as they entered the final frame trailing 43-23 in shot attempts and finished the game with a 49-47 advantage. Army could not break through against Stefano Durante, as the senior stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced on the night.
The Black Knights now head into the holiday break with a 1-2-0 record, and will return to action when they travel to Bridgeport, Conn., for the front-half of a home-and-home series with Sacred Heart.
