Three-Point Flurry Pushes Army Past Central Connecticut
November 27, 2020 | Men's Basketball
UNCASVILLE, Conn. - The Army West Point men's basketball team continued its hot start on Friday by defeating Central Connecticut 79-57 at "Bubbleville" at Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Black Knights caught fire from three-point range, led by senior captain Lonnie Grayson who set career-highs with 24 points and eight three-pointers.
"I am really pleased with how we played today," Head Coach Jimmy Allen said. "The energy was great today and the guys were terrific in preparation. A lot of young guys played big roles and we have a lot of returners playing new roles, so this was a pretty cool win."
Like Wednesday night's victory over Merchant Marine, it was a total team effort for the Black Knights, who saw contributions across the roster in the contest. Freshman guard Jalen Rucker added 12 points while shooting 5-7 from the field, while Alex King posted 11 points and seven rebounds. Senior Nick Finke recorded career-highs with eight points and 10 rebounds.
"Lonnie just got it going today," Allen said. "He worked incredibly hard in the offseason. It was really fun to watch him out there today and I am excited for him."
As a team, the Black Knights were 15-31 from beyond the arc, finishing just one shy of the program record of 16 three-pointers in a game.
"It felt great having the opportunity to compete against another opponent with my teammates," Grayson said. "We really focused on shooting the best shots for our team and playing team defense. I think we did a really great job of executing that today."
HIGHLIGHTS AND NOTES:
FIRST HALF
UP NEXT: The Black Knights return to the court on Saturday in the team's final game at Bubbleville when they take on Buffalo at 3 p.m. The game will be streamed live on FloHoops and can be heard on the Army Basketball Radio Network on TuneIn.
