November 02, 2020 | Men's Cross Country, Men's Rugby, Women's Cross Country, Women's Rugby
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Marshall Beatty and Mika Andrews of Army West Point men's and women's cross country and Luke Haug and Eleanor Burnett of men's and women's rugby have been selected as the Corps Squad Athletes of the Month for October.
Women's Cross Country
Mika Andrews '21
Hometown: Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
Major: History
"Mika has emerged as one of the most consistent performers on our team and is the unquestioned leader of the women's cross country program at Army. She has succeeded through hard work and determination and her example has been the foundation of the recent success of this team. She has all the tools that you look for in a leader. She is a Division 1 alpha performer, she is an academic star at the Academy, she is an authentic leader, and she is a great teammate. She came to West Point to become a better version of herself and while on that path she has elevated our program to new heights. The Academy is lucky to have her here."
Men's Cross Country
Marshall Beatty '22
Hometown: Missoula, Mont.
Major: Philosophy
"Marshall stands out on our team because he is our number one runner and has been a varsity performer since he arrived as a plebe three years ago. Marshall's success in the classroom and in cross country is a product of his mindset. He values hard work; he sets an example of hard work and by so doing he elevates the expectations of those around him. The men's cross country team has won multiple star meets and Patriot League titles in recent years and Marshall Beatty's role in that success has been front and center. He is a quiet force for what is right and is one of the strongest willed people I have ever met. I am not surprised by his academic rise nor his athletic dominance. He has the ability to take himself beyond the limits of normal when it comes to pain tolerance and as such is always in the fight. We are lucky to have him at this institution and on our team. That is obvious to me and will be more obvious to the army at large when he gets out there as a leader."
Men's Rugby
Luke Haug '21
Hometown: Jamison, PA
Major: Business Management
"Luke is the type of guy that everyone wants to be around! He is the life of the party when we're having fun but is also the guy out-working you when we're working. Whether it's on the rugby field, in the weight room or with school, Luke will push you to be better. I have no doubt that these characteristics are going to follow him into the Army and I can't think of a better guy to serve beside."
Women's Rugby
Eleanor Burnett '21
Hometown: Carlsbad, Calif.
Major: Geospatial Information Science
"Eleanor is the epitome of hard word both on and off the pitch. Whether it's leading the team to a victory against Navy or organizing non rugby events to keep the morale of the team high, Eleanor is someone you can always count on. Her determination and perseverance is no different in the realm of academia and reverberates through each class on the team. I have no doubt in my mind she will finish strong and carry on the traits she learned as a cadet into commissioning as an Army officer and for that we are beyond proud."
