Denver Defeats Army In Straight Sets

HONOLULU, Hawai'i. - Despite a surge late in the third set, the Army West Point volleyball team was defeated by Denver in its second of three matches in the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.
After dropping the first two sets to the undefeated Pioneers, Army faced a 23-18 deficit late in the third before winning the next six points to take a 24-23 lead. Denver would not be denied, however, as they managed to close out the Black Knights 29-27 in the set to clinch a 3-0 victory.
The Black Knights again showed grit against a strong undefeated opponent, managing to out-kill Denver 39-38 in the match. The Pioneers were strong at the net, claiming an 11-4 advantage in blocks.
Senior Allie Strong recorded her first double-digit kills match of the season with a match-high 10 kills. Hannah Presley followed up on her double-double performance against Hawai'i with 18 assists and 9 digs.
Army will play in its final contest at Hawaii's Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Saturday at 5 PM ET when it takes on Sacramento State.
