WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point football team opens the 2019 slate on Friday night under the lights with a 6 p.m. kickoff against Rice on CBS Sports Network.Â
Army starts the year on a Friday night for the fifth-straight season and at home for the first time since 2017.nThe contest will air live on CBS Sports Network with Ben Holden, Ross Tucker and Tina Cervasio on the call. THE OPENING KICKOFF
• The Black Knights are coming into the 2019 season on a nine-game winning streak, which is the second longest active winning streak in college football behind only national champion Clemson.
• Heading into the year, Army is on the outside looking in when it comes to the national polls. The Black Knights are receiving votes in both the USA Today Coaches Poll and the Associated Press Poll.
• Army is looking to increase its home winning streak to 14 games, a streak that goes back to the final game at Michie in 2016.
• Since the start of the 2017 season, the Cadets have won 21 of their last 26 games for a .807 winning percentage and are 21-3 over the last two seasons when kicking off prior to 7 p.m. Eastern.
• The Black Knights have earned 10 or more wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time in school history, including a program-record 11 in 2018.
• If there is one thing that hasn't been on Army's side recently, it has been season openers over the last four seasons as Army is 2-2. The Black Knights dropped the opener at Duke on the road to start 2018.
• Army will play 13 regular-season games for the first time since 2003 and for only the second time in school history.
ARMY-RICE HISTORY
• This will be the ninth meeting between Army and Rice since the first meeting in 1958.
• The Owls own a slim 4-3-1 lead in the series, but the Black Knights have won the last two games.
• In the last meeting in 2017, Army caused six Owl turnovers on the road and earned a 49-12 victory, which was the largest margin of victory in the series.
• Rice has enjoyed success at West Point with two wins in four previous meetings at Michie Staduim, but Army won 31-14 in the last contest at Michie.

• Rice enters the 2019 season after finishing 2-11 last season and 1-7 in Conference USA games.
• Head coach Mike Bloomgren is starting his second year at the helm and returns 57 percent of his starters between the offense, defense and special teams.
