AUSTIN, Texas – The Army West Point golf team kicked off the NCAA Regionals on Monday morning.

The Black Knights finished with a team score of 309 (+25), which is tied with Prairie View A&M for 13th on the team leaderboard. Pepperdine and Texas share the lead at the top at 6-under par as a team.

Justin Williamson was Army's top player in round one with a 2-over score of 73. He recovered from a tough start to turn it on during the back nine to get closer to even par. Pierceson Coody of Texas is the leader after the first day on the individual leaderboard as he fired a 5-under 66.

TOURNAMENT NOTES
- Army is competing in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016.
- It is the first appearance under head coach Chad Bagley.
- Williamson is in a tie for 29th on the leaderboard.
- He had a tough first nine holes, going 5-over through nine, but recovered to shoot a 33 (-3) on the back nine.
- He posted four birdies during the round including two of the last three holes.
- Williamson sunk a long putt down a ridge on 18 to birdie the final hole of the day.
- Rookie Tom Katsenes finished with a 6-over 77 in his first action in an NCAA Tournament.
- He was steady through the first six holes, going 1-under with a birdie on the first, but was 4-over on the back nine.
- Team captain Nick Turner was 7-over on the day with a score of 78. He finished with two birdies.
