Schultz Repeats as Academic All-PL Selection
May 01, 2019 | Men's Lacrosse
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Senior defender Griffin Schultz of the Army West Point men's lacrosse team was named to the Academic All-Patriot League team for the second straight year.
Schultz was one of 14 student-athletes throughout the Patriot League to earn the honor.
"In my estimation, Griffin represents the very best of this institution and has excelled in the classroom and has excelled on the playing field," said head coach Joe Alberici. "He epitomizes what a cadet-athlete is all about. What makes me particularly proud of Griffin is that nothing has been given to him - it has all been earned. He has worked hard to become an indispensable member of our defense and is the same way in the classroom. He chose a challenging major and has earned everything he's got. He is going to be a hell of an Army officer."
Schultz boasts a 3.774 grade-point average with an Economics major and Systems Engineering track. The senior has made the Dean's List all seven eligible semesters and has not produced a single semester GPA below a 3.5. In his limited spare time, Schultz tutors his teammates in Economics and Physics.
He dons the Golden Wreath and a Golden Star on his uniform to signify the Superintendent's Award for Achievement and as a Distinguished Cadet. Schultz ranks 206 among his classmates.
The Lancaster, Pa., native helps anchor Army's defense which allowed just 8.67 goals per game ranking third in the country. He started in all 15 contests so far and has contributed 14 ground balls, six caused turnovers and one assist.
The selection process was conducted by the League's men's lacrosse sports information directors, who could not vote for their own student-athletes.
The fourth-seeded Black Knights will take on top-seeded Loyola Friday in the Patriot League Semifinals. The game will be played at 5 p.m. in Baltimore, Md., and will be aired on CBS Sports Network.
