SALEM, S.C. – The Army West Point golf team opened the Clemson Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Cliffs at Keowee Falls and is tied for ninth on the leaderboard.

The Black Knights finished with a team score of 294 (+6) and is in a tie with UNC Wilmington for ninth. Georgia Tech has a 1-stroke lead over Georgia after the first round. The Yellow Jackets went 16-under as a team. The top four spots on the leaderboard are held by ranked teams in Georgia Tech, Georgia, Duke and Clemson.

TOURNAMENT NOTES

Justin Williamson was Army's leading golfer with a 1-under 71 on the first day and is in a tie for 21st on the individual leaderboard.
He had four birdies and never slipped to over par on his scorecard on the opening round.
Team captain Nick Turner finished with an even par round of 72 and had four birdies and was 3-under on the back nine for the Black Knights.
Matt Plunkett started off hot with an eagle on his first hole of the tournament and made four birdies during his round.
Tom Katsenes and James McKee recorded rounds of 76 (+4) and 78 (+6), respectively.
