FDU Edges Army in Rainout Continuation

CARY, N.C. - The Army West Point baseball team dropped a 10-5 decision to Fairleigh Dickinson here Saturday.
The two teams started their contest on Friday but were rained out in the bottom of the fourth inning. At the time of the rain out, FDU led the Black Knights 7-2. Looking to continue the game as quickly as possible the teams agreed to finish the final five and a half innings on Saturday morning.
Already in a five-run hole, Army tried to rally right off the bat on Saturday. The Cadets put up two runs in the bottom half of the fourth to make it a 7-4 ballgame. The Hawks continued to add on though with a run in the sixth and two in the ninth and the Black Knights were ultimately unable to pull even.
Jeremiah Adams finished an impressive 4-for-4 with a run batted in and a run of his own. Drake Titus and Trey Martin chipped in two hits apiece, while Jacob Hurtubise, Andre Walden, and Carter Macias each added one.
Mike Gagliardi was tabbed with the loss after allowing seven hits and six runs in 2.1 innings of work.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Hurtubise drilled his third triple of the year to lead off the game Friday.
- Matt Hudgins was credited with a stolen base, while Anthony Giachin and Brendan Siriani both converted on sacrifice fly balls.
- Jacob Carte saw his first action of the year on the mound Friday coming in for relief. He gave up one hit and one run during his 1.2 innings on the hill.
- Anthony LoRicco and Matt LePoint also received time on the mound. LoRicco pitched most of Saturday's make up, going 4.2 innings. The rookie allowed four hits and three runs, while striking out four. LePoint faced the final batter and struck him out looking.
- The Knights recorded three extra base hits to just one for the Cadets.
FACTS & FIGURES
- Army finished with five runs on 10 hits, while FDU posted 10 runs on 12 hits.
- The Black Knights were tabbed with the only error in the game.
- Both teams left runners on base with Army stranding seven and FDU 10.
