Army Bats Come Alive in Victory Over Saint Joseph’s
March 02, 2019 | Baseball
CARY, N.C. - The Army West Point baseball team got a little revenge on Saint Joseph's here Saturday afternoon following its 11-5 victory.
The two teams played Friday but needed extra innings to find a winner. The Hawks claimed that win 3-2 in the 10th inning but the Black Knights' rebounded nicely on Saturday with their six-run victory.
A big third inning ultimately put the game out of reach for the Hawks as Army put up six runs on five hits. Jeremiah Adams and Trey Martin brought home four of those runs as they two delivered two-RBI singles during the frame.
Adams, John McKenna and Anthony Giachin each registered two hits each in the game, while eight of the nine starters tallied at least one hit.
Sam Messina recorded his second win on the hill after allowing just four runs, two earned, on eight hits in 5.0 innings of work. The senior righty struck out an impressive seven during his time on the mound as well.
The Hawks took a 2-1 advantage after the top of the third but Army quickly erased that deficit with six runs in the sixth. Another two runs for the designated home side in the bottom of the fourth inning ultimately but the game out of reach.
