Silva’s Career Day Lifts Army Past Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. – Led by junior attacker Miles Silva's career-high eight goals, the No. 18 Army West Point men's lacrosse team topped Binghamton on the road, 15-6.
Silva scored six goals in a row for the Black Knights including a natural hat trick.
Nate Jones contributed a goal and four assists to also post a career-high in points with five. Brendan Nichtern tied his career-high four helpers in the game.
AJ Barretto led the team in ground balls with four and made eight saves in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- For the seventh-straight game, the Black Knights were the first to get on the board.
- Jeremy Angle recorded his first tally of the year 6:07 into the action.
- A minute later, Nicholas Garofano drove to the right side of the cage, pulling Nate Jones' defender off him for the easy dump and score.
- With 5:38 on the clock, Johnny Surdick caused a turnover in Army's defensive zone. Marcus Hudgins picked up the ground ball and set up a quick transition goal for James Pryor, the first of his career.
- To start off the second quarter, Angle netted another off the iso play.
- Matt Manown put the Black Knights ahead 5-0 after he split three Binghamton defenders.
- The Bearcats scored their first of the day with 11:04 on the clock, but 20 seconds later the Cadets forced a failed clear to set up a score.
- Silva initiated the caused turnover and Jones picked up the loose ball. He found Pryor in the middle of the zone and the rookie scored his second of the game.
- Binghamton cut Army's lead to four, 6-2, with 9:45 to go in the half. However, Silva would go on to score four of the next five goals in the game.
- The junior recorded his first natural hat trick in a seven-minute span.
- Anthony George set up a transition goal after scooping up the ball in the Cadets' defensive zone and carrying it up the field.
- Brendan Nichtern then found Silva in front for the quick goal.
- With 1:23 on the clock, Jones fired a pass to the top of the crease where Silva was waiting, and he shoveled one in past the Binghamton goalie.
- The Bearcats slowed Army's run with 34 seconds to go in the half on a crease roll.
- Nichtern and Silva connected again, however, with seven seconds remaining to bring the Black Knights' lead to seven, 10-3, after the first 30 minutes of play.
- Silva continued his hot streak and made it six straight goals for Army in the second half.
- The junior connected with Nichtern on both plays to record the only two scores in the third frame.
- Ethan Barangan opened the fourth quarter with his first-career goal off the faceoff.
- Binghamton halted Army's 4-0 run with a goal of its own at the 12:25 mark of the fourth quarter.
- Manown connected with Silva for the Black Knights' 14th score of the day before the Bearcats netted one from the right side.
- Silva posted his eighth goal of the day to increase Army's lead to 10, 15-5, off a feed from Jones.
- Despite the Bearcats netting the final score of the game, the Black Knights came away with the 15-6 road victory.

- The 15 goals scored was the highest by the Black Knights this year. Today also marked the highest margin of victory.
- Army is now 4-1 against non-conference opponents.
