AIKEN, S.C. – The Army West Point golf team started off the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate on Monday and is sitting in a tie for 15th after day one of competition.

The Black Knights ended up with a team score of 589 (+29) through 36 holes. South Carolina leads the way with first round score of 537 (-11) and is three strokes ahead of Virginia, who sits in second.

TOURNAMENT NOTES

Team captain Nick Turner was Army's top scorer on the course with a 4-over 144 on day one.
Turner shot 3-under par on the back nine after posting just one birdie on his first hole of the opening round and recovered from three bogeys and a triple on his first nine.
He improved during round two with a 1-over 71 and birdied the last hole for the 71.
Justin Williamson was Army's second-best performer on the day with a total score of 146 after firing a 74 in round one and a 72 in the second round.
Tom Katsenes had a pair of 4-over scores of 74 for a total of 148.
Andrew Watts finished the day with a 74 in round two, which was an improvement from the opening round and he birdied the last two holes of the day to go 4-over on the second time around the course.
South Carolina's Will Miles and William Walker III of UAB shared the individual lead at 6-under after shooting a 64 in round two. Miles remained in the lead after the second round with a 5-under score to head into the final day with an 11-under on the board.
