Black Knights Finish Second at League Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Army West Point women's swimming and diving team posted a solid final day at the Patriot League Championships to secure a second-place finish on Saturday night.
Navy came out on top at the championship meet with a team score of 941. The Black Knights finished with 496 points, while Bucknell (482), Lehigh (447) and Boston U. (405) followed. Loyola (285), Colgate (175), Holy Cross (153), American (142) and Lafayette (68) rounded out the field.

WENDER'S WORDS
"Our team fought like crazy through the entire weekend to accomplish our goal of finishing in the top two," head coach Mickey Wender said. "We were challenged by some really good teams in Bucknell, Lehigh and Boston U. The leadership of our seniors was tremendous, and we got significant contributions from everyone on the team. I was particularly proud of Kara and Cecelia who broke Academy records in the last swims of their careers."

Several Cadets will trek down to Annapolis, Md., next weekend for the three-day ECAC Championships beginning on March 1 at Lejeune Hall.

ARMY NOTABLES
- The final day started with the 1650 free and it was Sidney Evans (17:05.90), Meaghan McGovern (17:09.45) and Monica Sowinski (17:12.80) scoring big for the Black Knights after finishing seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.
- In the 200 back, it was Cecelia Croman's time of 1:58.43 that was good for fourth and an Academy record. Josephine Marsh also added to Army's total with a seventh-place showing in the event with a time of 1:59.58.
- After posting a time of 50.87 in the 100 free, Mia Rankin finished in seventh.
- Kara Wineinger bested the Academy record, which she previously held, in the 200 breast after swimming to a third-place time of 2:14.11.
- The 200 fly was highlighted by Whitney Chang's fifth-place finish at 2:02.05.
