ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Army West Point women's swimming and diving team finished the opening day of the ECAC Championships in first place with 210 points.
The Black Knights currently sit atop the 17-team field with Navy trailing in second with 199.5 points. UConn rounds out the top-three with 82 points,

"It was a great day here at the ECAC Championships," head coach Mickey Wender said. "We're racing hard against some great competition. Whitney's Academy record and win in the 200 IM was awesome. I'm excited for our women, who are out to a narrow lead against Navy and everyone else. It's going to be a great weekend of racing."

Army will resume competition tomorrow with the preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. The finals are set for 6 p.m.

ARMY NOTABLES
- The day began with a first-place finish in the 200 free relay after Mia Rankin, Lexus Van Hoven, Sammie Edwards and Nicole Parry posted a time of 1:32.59.
- Kim Caccamo took third in the 500 free at 4:58.20.
- It was in the 200 IM that Whitney Chang broke an Academy record after she touched the wall at 2:03.49. Sidney Evans was the previous record holder after she set the mark in 2016.
- Van Hoven bested the competition in the 50 free and came away with the win after finishing at 23.18. Rankin (23.59) and Edwards (23.72) finished in fifth and sixth, respectively.
- The day came to an end once Army took second in the 400 medley relay. Rankin, Marie Docken, Chang and Van Hoven were part of the relay squad that notched a time of 3:44.93.
