Men's Lacrosse Recognized in National Preseason Polls

WEST POINT, N.Y. - After winning the Patriot League Championship and earning a program-record 13 wins last season , the Army West Point men's lacrosse team ranks 15th in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and 20th in the U.S. Lacrosse Preseason Poll.
Army went 13-5 on the year with three wins against nationally ranked programs. The Black Knights defeated UMass in the season opener before routing Rutgers in more non-conference action, and then topped Loyola in the Patriot League Semifinals 7-5. The Cadets were 3-2 against ranked opponents this season and 2-1 against opponents ranked inside the top-10.
The Black Knights made their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2010 this year and for the 20th time in program history. Army received an automatic bid after claiming the Patriot League Championship with an 11-7 victory over Lehigh. Johnny Surdick was named the William C. Schmeisser Award winner as the most outstanding defender in the nation. He was a First Team All-America selection as AJ Barretto was named to the second team and Brendan Nichtern to honorable mention.
Army opens the season on Feb. 8 with a home contest against UMass who is 14th in the Nike Poll. Also recognized in the preseason rankings on Army's schedule are No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 7 Syracuse, No. 15 Loyola, No. 16 Rutgers and No. 18 Lehigh.
