Third Period Rally Falls Short Against the Tigers

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Down 3-0 in the third period, the Army West Point hockey team scored back-to-back goals in a comeback attempt that fell short against RIT on Saturday evening. The Tigers netted an empty net goal with 1:03 remaining to clinch the victory, 4-2.Â

The Black Knights had yet another perfect penalty kill denying the Tigers on three chances and have now executed 40-straight.Â

Brett Abdelnour's top shelf goal sparked Army's rally at the 11:39 mark of the third period. Zach Evancho netted a power play goal three minutes later to bring the game within one.Â

RIT scored an empty net goal to put the game out of reach for the Cadets with just over a minute to play.Â

- RIT went ahead 2-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game.Â
- The Tigers then scored 7:09 into the third period, but Army bounced back 1:12 later to spoil their chances at a shutout.Â
- Abdenlour got things going for the Black Knights with a top shelf goal from the slot with help from Dominic Franco and Cody Fleckenstein.Â
- Evancho brought Army within one on a power play goal with 8:29 to go in the game.Â
- The captain was assisted by his alternates in Franco and Alex Wilkinson.Â
- RIT pulled away off an empty net goal with 1:03 on the clock.Â

- The Black Knights posted another clean sheet on the penalty kill.Â
- Army denied three more extra-man opportunities and has not allowed a power play score since the season opener.
- The Cadets have killed off 40 penalties in a row which spans over 624:20 minutes of action and 10 full games.
- Kozlowski made 17 saves in net.
- For the second time in three games, Franco posted multiple assists.Â
- The senior boasts a team-leading eight helpers in 2019-20 and 47 in his career.Â

- It was the senior captain's 19th-career power play goal.Â
- Evancho's goal total increases to 34 after tonight.Â
- Abdelnour netted his second of the season and now is second on the team among freshmen with three points.Â
- Wilkinson notched assist number three of the year tonight and 53 in his career boosting his career point total to 67.Â
- Fleckenstein was on the stat sheet for the second time in three games, this time with a helper, the second in his career.Â
