Army posted 664 yards of total offense with 549 coming through the air. Leading the Cadets' attack through the air was junior quarterback Ryan Sullivan who had a career-high 443 passing yards and threw for five touchdowns all on 30-of-42 passing. Sophomore quarterback JC Watson also contributed 106 yards through the air.
Army had three different receivers with over 140 yards. Leading the way was senior Tom Williamson with 181 yards on 10 catches and was followed closely by Nitai Chun (163 yards) and Kraig Hamilton (145 yards).
Defensively, the Black Knights held Mansfield to just 137 yards of total offense, forcing the Mountaineers to punt the ball nine times. David Dickerson and Tate Blessinger paced the Army defense with a team-leading seven tackles each. Dickerson was also credited with a forced fumble.
Prior to the contest, Army honored its senior class of Brendan Brown, Peter Davis, John Descisciolo, Bobby Downing, Garrett Dunn, Jake Gigliotti, Onorino Tamburri, Tom Williamson and Desmond Young.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Head coach Mark West registered his 64th career win to move past Bob Thompson (1986-97) for second place on the program's all-time wins list.
- The Black Knights improved to 10-0 all-time in division play, since the league first created divisions in 2017.
- Sullivan's 443 passing yards is the most by any quarterback in the CSFL this season. The second highest mark belongs to Chestnut Hill's Michael Marino, who threw for 336 yards at Penn. Additionally, Sullivan's five touchdown passes is tied with Marino, who accomplished the feat in the same game against Penn.
- Williamson set new career highs with his 10 catches and 181 yards, as did Hamilton with his eight catches and 145 yards receiving.
- With his 163 receiving yards and two touchdowns, Chun set new career highs in both categories.
- Ryan Leach grabbed his seventh interception of the year, while Cade Cunningham registered his first career interception.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
- The Black Knights marched down the field on their opening drive, scoring in six plays and covering 63 yards. The drive was capped off by a five-yard touchdown pass to from Sullivan to Justin Charette with 12:39 remaining in the opening quarter, which gave Army the 7-0 lead.
- Army pieced together a methodical drive with their next possession, but Mansfield's Terrance Quaker came up with an interception at the Mountaineers one yard line to keep the Black Knights out of the end zone.
Second Quarter
- Seppi Ortman connected on a 28-yard field goal attempt, which gave Army the 10-0 lead with 10:34 left in the opening half.
- The Black Knights tried adding to its lead in the final minute of the half, but had their field goal attempt blocked and returned to their own 10 yard line. On the very next play, Mansfield's Koby Peacock connected with DJ McLean for a touchdown, to cut Army's lead to three heading into the half.
Third Quarter
- Williamson set the tone for the Black Knight monstrous third quarter by taking a screen pass 63 yards to the house with 11:25 remaining in the third to put Army up 17-7.
- Army took the 24-7 lead a little over two minutes later when Sullivan found Chun in the end zone from seven yards out.
- Jacob Turner caught his first career touchdown pass with 6:23 left in the third to put the Black Knights ahead 31-7.
- The Cadets closed out their 28-point third quarter with Sullivan finding Chun in the end zone once again, though this time for a 33-yard connection with two minutes remaining. The score gave Army the 38-7 advantage.
Fourth Quarter
- Kameron Miller's plunged into the end zone from two yards out with 10:29 left in the contest, before Jack Felgar added the exclamation point with a one-yard touchdown run with 1:38 remaining.
UP NEXT
For the second straight year, Army will take on Navy in the CSFL title game. The contest will be played next Friday, Nov. 8, at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
