Army Extends Winning Streak To Four

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point volleyball team won its fourth consecutive match on Saturday as it defeated conference opponent Loyola (Md.) in straight sets.
The Black Knights (15-6, 6-2 PL)Â played one of their most complete matches of the year, hitting at .379 percentage in the match with eight blocks and six aces across the match's three sets. The team committed just eight attack errors in the match.
"I am very proud of how the team stayed tough and focused on the mission today," Head coach Alma Kovaci Lee said. "Our focus and intensity were the best they have been this season and it showed in our play."
Army was strong from the start, hitting at a .500 percentage in the first set. Sophomore Emmy Barnhorst record five of her match leading 10 kills in the first frame. The Cadets also recorded four of the team's six aces in the first set.
Two Black Knights recorded four kills in set two, as seniors Sydney Morriss and Allie Strong led the offense in the second en route to a .429 percentage.
The third set was won at the net for Army, as the team posted five of its eight blocks. Army won the third set 25-16.
On the efficiency front, five different Cadets recorded five kills with a hitting percentage over .400 as Barnhorst (10/.500), Strong (8/.500), Morris (7/.429), Monica Eckford (8/.438) and Hannah Presley (5/.556) achieved the feat. Presley (18) and Nikki Lum (13) led the team in assists to set up the attack.
"I am very proud of our setters and how efficient our offense was and that can be seen in our hitting percentage," Kovaci Lee said. "This team is trending upward and we are ready to attack the second half of our season."
Army returns to action on Oct. 25 when they travel to the nation's capital to take on American.
