Black Knights Fall to Georgia State on the Road

ATLANTA – Georgia State overcame a third-quarter Army lead and scored the final 14 points of the game to earn the 28-21 win over the Black Knights on Saturday night at Georgia State Stadium.

Army rushed for 278 yards, with Connor Slomka leading the way with 89 yards on the ground. Sandon McCoy recorded his first multi-score game of his career. Jalen Moy scored the Black Knights other touchdown in the game to conclude the scoring.

Cole Christiansen finished with a team high eight tackles, with seven coming as solo stops. Elijah Riley had seven tackles in the loss for the Black Knights.

Georgia State had a total of 379 yards of offense with 232 coming through the air. Tra Barnett gained 108 yards on the ground and had a touchdown, while Dan Ellington threw for three scores. His passing numbers were impressive, going 20-of-28. Sam Pinckey hauled in two of his three touchdown passes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Georgia State took advantage of a miscue on a fake punt by Army and took a 7-0 lead with 7:47 left in the first quarter on a 24-yard touchdown strike from Ellington to Pinckney.
- The Black Knights answered on their next drive, going 75 yards on nine plays, with McCoy jumping over the line on fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line to make it a tie game at 7-7.
- Slomka had a key 38-yard run to setup the Black Knights in the red zone.
- The two teams traded fumbles on consecutive drives, and it was the Panthers that capitalized with another touchdown pass from Ellington to Pinckney to make 14-7 with 7:41 on the clock before the half.
- The Black Knights came right back on the Panthers, going 75 yards on 12 plays with McCoy finding the end zone again as he carried tacklers for the score from eight yards out to tie it up again at 14-14.
- The scoring continued for the Black Knights coming out of halftime with Moy scoring on a reverse from 16 yards out to cap off another 12-play drive to give Army a 21-14 lead early in the third.
- The Panthers marched right down the field on the following possession and Barnett punched it in the end zone from the 1-yard line, but Georgia State missed the extra point and Army remained in the lead at 21-20.
- Georgia State regained the lead with an 11-play, 81-yard drive to take the 28-21 advantage. Ellington found Payne Aubrey in the end zone and the Panthers got the 2-point conversion.
- The Black Knights had one final chance, but threw an interception on fourth down and the Panthers came away with the win.
