January 23, 2019 | Women's Lacrosse
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Sophomore attack Jackie Brattan highlighted the Preseason All-Patriot League honors for the Army West Point women's lacrosse team that was picked to finish sixth in the preseason poll on Thursday.
"It is an exciting time for Army Women's Lacrosse, both in our locker room and out on our practice fields this time of year," Noto Family Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Kristen Skiera said. "We are incorporating new, creative elements into our overall game, while working hard to add strength and physicality to our fundamentals. The hunger to get into the Patriot League tournament for the first time in our program's history is a driving force for us every day."
Brattan arrived on the banks of the Hudson last year and excelled during her first year with the Black Knights by setting a freshman scoring record with 24 goals. The Garden City, N.Y., native played in all 17 games and made 15 starts, while finishing her rookie campaign with 26 points and 46 draw controls to go along with her scoring efforts.
"Jackie had a standout freshman season both on the draw circle and on our offensive end," Skiera added. "Her speed and quick first step is hard for our opponents to ignore. She has continued to develop the versatility of her game in the offseason, and we look forward to seeing her grow into a an even bigger role in her sophomore campaign."
The four-time defending league champs, Loyola, were picked to finish first once again with 156 points and 12 first-place votes. Navy came in a close second with 152 points and eight first-place votes, while Lehigh rounded out the top three with 130 points. Boston U. (112) and Colgate (84) finished just ahead of the Black Knights (82), who received their highest preseason league ranking in program history.
