Ottman and Alaimo Earn Weekly League Honors
January 22, 2019 | Men's Swimming and Diving
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Tom Ottman and Daniel Alaimo both collected Patriot League weekly honors after helping the Army West Point men's swimming and diving team go a perfect 3-0 this past weekend in Fairfax, Va.
Ottman earned his first weekly recognition from the league after picking up a trio of top-two finishes in individual events opposite American, George Mason and Old Dominion. The senior started the meet with a first-place showing in the 1650 free, finishing with a time of 15:56.58. His mark was 14 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
He then captured a second-place finish in the 200 free at 1:41.75, before winning the 500 free once he touched the wall at 4:36.02.
"Tom has worked incredibly hard to distinguish himself as the top distance swimmer in the history of our program," head coach Mickey Wender said. "He's a multiple league champion and Academy record holder. But, in my opinion his greatest attribute is his resilience. Tom leads with his actions and knows how to win."
Alaimo also received his first weekly award from the league as the freshman diver set career-highs on both boards on Saturday. The West Nyack, N.Y., native took second on the 1-meter after totaling 300.85, which qualified him for NCAA Zone Diving Championships. He added a fourth-place finish on the 3-meter after posting a score of 265.20.
"Danny has put in a lot of hard work this year with the mission being to qualify for the Zone Diving Championships," head diving coach Chris Waters said. "He's added some harder dives and become much more consistent. This weekend, his efforts paid off as he made his cut and I couldn't be happier for him."
The Black Knights will return to action on Feb. 2 to compete at the Bison Invitational hosted by Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa.
