Cadets Topped by Yale in Four Sets

KINGSTON, R.I. – In its second match of the University of Rhode Island Invitational, the Army West Point volleyball team was topped by Yale in four sets.

The Bulldogs won the first set, but the Black Knights bounced back to tie the match at 1-1 after claiming the second set of action. Yale bounced back to win the final two sets to take the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET (Yale 25, Army 18)
- Army took an early 9-3 edge in the first set fueled by kills by Courtney Horace and Sydney Morriss.
- The Bulldogs were able to chip away at the lead to tie the score at 15-all.
- After a 4-0 run, Yale claimed its first lead of the set and never relinquished it back to the Black Knights.
- Horace and Morriss each tallied four kills apiece in the first set.
SECOND SET (Army 25, Yale 20)
- The second set was all about the Cadets as they jumped out to an 8-5 lead.
- Yale and Army bounced points back-and-forth, but ultimately a 9-5 run to close out the match gave the Black Knights the advantage.
- Monica Eckford posted four kills in the set and hit at .667, while Lauren Janok tallied 11 assists.
THIRD SET (Yale 25, Army 15)
- Army struggled to find its rhythm in the final two sets. The Bulldogs went up 6-1 in the third before the Black Knights were able to score their second point.
- After going ahead 21-12, the Cadets fought back to close ground on Yale's lead, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
FOURTH SET (Yale 25, Army 15)
- The Black Knights and Bulldogs had a tight fourth set with Yale ahead just 8-7.
- A 10-1 run followed however to put things out of reach for the Cadets.
- Lisa Sullivan and Emmy Barnhorst were able to keep Army points adding to the board, but Yale went on to win the set 25-15.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Morriss stood out at the net for Army with 12 kills. The junior added four digs and an assist in the effort.
- Eckford posted eight kills in the match and had a .400 hitting percentage. Horace also had eight kills.
- Janok paced the Black Knights' offense with 33 assists and a team-high five blocks.
- The freshman also added 11 digs to mark her second double-double this season.
- Barnhorst aided the Cadets with seven kills and also tallied four total blocks.
- Ana Oglivie recorded 19 digs and added five assists.

- The Black Knights will face New Hampshire Saturday at 4 p.m.
