KINGSTON, R.I. – The Army West Point volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to Rhode Island in Friday morning's match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET (URI 25, Army 22)
- The Black Knights and Rhodys stuck together for most of the set tying the score at 15-15, 16-16 then 17-17 after a kill from Lisa Sullivan.
- URI reached set point, but back-to-back kills from Courtney Horace kept the Cadets in the set.
- However, the Rhodys tallied a final kill after a timeout to clinch the first set of action.
- Horace and Sullivan tallied four kills apiece in the set, while Lum posted four assists and six digs.
SECOND SET (URI 25, Army 17)
- URI jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the second before the Black Knights started to gel.
- Army then scored three straight points to bring the set within one.
- A kill from Hannah Presley accompanied by two errors by the Rhodys helped the Cadets come within one at 8-7.
- Rhode Island went on a huge run though to claim the set 25-17.
THIRD SET (URI 25, Army 22)
- Army was hot in the third set with an 8-6 lead off a kill by Monica Eckford.
- This sparked a 6-3 run in the set to give the Black Knights a 13-9 lead.
- The Rhodys fought back to make it a one-point match. The Black Knights led 16-15 and called timeout to reset.
- URI posted a 9-0 run to take its first lead of the set at 21-16.
- The Black Knights scored the next two points capped by an Eckford block, but the Rhodys kept chipping away and won the match with a final set score of 25-22.Â
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Emmy Barnhorst led the team with 13.5 points on nine kills and three blocks. She also had a team leading three service aces.
- Horace posted eight kills and added three blocks as well.
- Eckford recorded a team-high five blocks, while Sullivan boasted seven kills and nine digs.
- Lum notched 13 digs and 10 assists in the match for her fifth double-double of the season and 11th of her career.
UP NEXT
- The Black Knights will face Yale at 4 p.m. on Friday. Saturday will feature a matchup opposite New Hampshire (4 p.m.).
