Takaki Tabbed Midfielder of the Week
September 03, 2018 | Men's Soccer
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Christian Takaki of the Army West Point men's soccer team earned his first career Patriot League weekly award after being named the Midfielder of the Week on Monday afternoon.
"Christian is growing into each game as the team is growing into the season," head coach Russell Payne said. "We are encouraged by his steps forward."
The sophomore midfielder played a crucial role in the Black Knights' 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Pac-12 opponent San Diego State on the road this past Saturday night. With the game tied in the 80th minute, he took a ball that ricocheted off of the post and buried it into the back of the net for what turned out to be the game-deciding goal.
That score was the first of Takaki's career and helped Army pick up its second win over a Pac-12 foe in program history. It also gave the program its first ever win in the state of California.
The Harrisburg, Pa., native becomes the first Cadet to receive a weekly award from the league office this season.
Army returns to action on Friday when the Black Knights host Columbia for a 5 p.m. contest at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field.
