Army Eyes NCAA Opener Against No. 11 Texas Tech

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's tennis team will open the 2018 NCAA tournament against No. 11 Texas Tech in the first round of the tournament on Friday at 2 p.m. ET.

ARMY (21-6, 6-1 Patriot League)
• The Black Knights are riding a six-match winning streak heading into this weekend's match.
• In their last match, the Cadets defeated service-academy rival Navy, 4-2, to earn the program's 14th Patriot League title.
• Army is making its 14th appearance in the NCAA tournament and first since 2013.
• Rookie Ana Joyner is the only player on the team with at least 20 wins in both singles and doubles action, competing in the top flight of both facets.
• Joyner became the first player in Patriot League history to be named the player of the year, rookie of the year and MVP of the league tournament in the same season.
• The Las Cruces, N.M., native is also just the second player in league history to earn player of the year and rookie of the year honors, joining fellow Black Knight Annie Houghton who did so in 2008.
• She also paired with junior Melanie Allen as the Patriot League Doubles Team of the Year, while head coach Paul Peck garnered his 15th coach of the year honors to sweep the league's major awards.
#11 Texas Tech (20-6, 7-2 Big 12)
• The Red Raiders finished as the runner-up in the Big 12 tournament, falling to No. 6 Texas, 4-1, in the championship match.
• Five of TTU's six losses this year have come against top-10 opponents and all six have come against teams ranked in the top-20.
• The Red Raiders have advanced to the Sweet 16 in each of the last three seasons.
• Texas Tech is represented by four players who are ranked in the top-125 in the country: #21 Gabriela Talaba, #58 Felicity Maltby, #106 Sabrina Federici and #120 Katelyn Jackson.
