Cadets Poised for Patriot League Weekend Series

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team will embark on its final Patriot League regular season road series when the Black Knights head to Worcester, Mass., this weekend for a three-game set with Holy Cross starting on Saturday at noon. Â
Since 1984, the Black Knights and Crusaders have squared off 98 times, with the Cadets holding a 69-29 all-time series advantage. Army swept the Crusaders in 2015 and 2016, but Holy Cross got its revenge by winning the series last year at West Point. The two squads also met in the Patriot League Tournament, where the Black Knights captured a 7-0 victory over the Crusaders.Â

- Army continued its winning ways and swept Albany on Wednesday to capture its sixth straight victory.
- The Black Knights have won eight of their last nine and plated four or more runs in each of those games.
- There are currently four Cadets riding a hitting streak of five or more games, including Carrie Reilly who has tallied a base knock in 10 straight.
- Amelia Trotter has been a tone setter at the top of the lineup and Army is 7-0 since the sophomore began leading off on April 7.
- She has posted four multi-hit outings with 12 hits, 10 runs, seven RBI and three homers during that span.
- Courtney Springman came away with a pair of wins on Wednesday and moved past Shauna Evans '02 for seventh in single season strikeouts with 128.
HOLY CROSS (9-25, 2-7 PATRIOT LEAGUE)
- The Crusaders have hit a rough patch, dropping 11 of their last 13 outings, but are coming into the weekend off an 11-8 extra-innings win at Quinnipiac.
- Over that 13-game stretch, Holy Cross has been outscored 81-27.
- Jackie Brewster and Mandy McCarthy have paced the squad offensively with 36 and 34 hits, respectively.
- The duo have combined for 14 doubles and three dingers, while driving in 26 and crossing the plate 33 times.
- With a team-best 3.80 ERA, Katy Watson has found the most success in the circle.
- She has struck out 69 batters in 97.2 innings of work while limiting the opposition to a .265 average.
