Army Prepped for Weekend Series with UMass-Lowell

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team will have the weekend off from Patriot League play and head to UMass-Lowell on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at noon at River View Field.
Prior to this weekend's matchup, the Black Knights and River Hawks have met seven times since the series began in 1991. UMass-Lowell holds a 6-1 all-time series lead over Army. The River Hawks won the first six meetings between the two squads, but the Cadets claimed the last one, 4-1, on March 16, 2016 at the USF Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla.

- The Black Knights ran all over Gales, swiping a season-best nine bags, which was the most by a Patriot League team this season.
- In the past two outings the top four hitters in the Army lineup have been on fire, combining for a .519 average with six RBIs and six stolen bases, while scoring eight of the team's nine runs.
- Carrie Reilly is on a six-game hitting streak, boosting her batting average to .305.
- Army's pitching staff has allowed the opposition to score more than two runs in a game just once over the last six outings.
- The Black Knights currently hold the second-best team ERA in the Patriot League at 2.90, while picking up the most strikeouts (167) and limiting opponents to a league-best .253 average. Â Â
UMASS-LOWELL (12-18, 6-2 AMERICA EAST)
- The River Hawks were victorious in six straight outings before falling to Maine in the second game of a doubleheader road series on April 11.
- During that stretch, UMass-Lowell held its opponents to two or fewer runs in five contests.
- Despite leading the America East in hits (202), doubles (49) and sitting tied for first in runs scored (110), the River Hawk hitters have been prone to striking out, ranking first in that category with 155 punch outs.
- Majority of the team's power comes from Courtney Cashman and Casey Harding, who have combined for 18 doubles, seven homers, 27 RBIs and 33 runs scored.
- In the circle, Lovina Capria carries a team-best 2.30 ERA with a 9-3 record.
- She has fanned 71 batters in 82.1 innings and is holding opponents to a .239 average.
