- After back-to-back no-hit innings by Newbary, the Black Knights came up to hit in the home half of the third and tacked on some insurance runs. Trotter led off with an infield single and after stealing second, scored on a McPeek RBI single to center. Ballesteros drew a base on balls and after the first out was recorded, Army had runners on the corners.
- A double steal plated a run to give Army a 3-0 lead, before runners were at the corners again following a Drayton single through the left side. One final run came in to score for the Black Knights after a costly defensive mishap by an Iona infielder and Army extended its lead to four.
- The Gaels got on the board in the fourth after loading the bases and scoring on a fielder's choice to make it a three-run game.
- However, with runners in scoring position and two outs in the fifth, an Army run was plated on an Iona error.
- With Poirier in the circle, the Gaels were unable to generate any more offense and the Black Knights secured the 5-1 victory.
