Army Opens Patriot League Play at Lafayette

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The No. 13/14 Army West Point men's lacrosse team opens up Patriot League play this Saturday with a game at Lafayette.
The contest will begin at 1 p.m. from Fisher Stadium in Easton, Pa.
#13/14 ARMY (3-1, 0-0 Patriot League)
- The Black Knights continue on their two-game road stretch this Saturday.
- Army plays on the road for back-to-back weekends for the only time on its schedule.
- The Cadets are the final team in the Patriot League to begin conference play.
- Lafayette is 0-1 in the Patriot League after a 19-5 deficit to Loyola last weekend.
- Army holds a 36-0 edge over the Leopards in the all-time series which dates back to 1926.
- Last season, the Black Knights defeated Lafayette 14-4 at Michie. The Leopards will be looking to shut down Nate Jones who posted six goals and added an assist in the effort.
- The Black Knights are looking to get back on track with a win this weekend.
- Army is currently 3-1 alongside Bucknell, Lehigh, Loyola and Colgate who boast identical records.
- The Cadets are tops in the league in man-up goals per game at 2.25. The Leopards average 3.88 penalties a game so Army will be looking to take advantage.
- The Black Knights rank second in faceoff percentage (.606) in the Patriot League, while the Leopards are sixth (.520).
- Army's senior class owns 35 wins as a group.
- Conor Glancy scored a hat trick on Saturday for his second of the year. He joins Jones who also boasts a pair of hat tricks this season.

- Lafayette enters the weekend with a 2-3 record and is 0-1 in Patriot League contests.
- The Leopards have wins over NJIT (10-8) and Wagner (8-7 OT).
- Conor Walters paces Lafayette's offense with 10 goals.
- A majority of his goals have been assisted by Will McCarthy who boasts six helpers on the year.
- Adam Close and John Natoli have produced six goals apiece so far this season.
- Chris Adamo averages 5.0 ground balls per game. McCarthy follows with 3.4.
- Jonathan Anastos has started in all five games and has been on the field for all but 10 minutes of action.
- He has a 12.24 goals against average and a .450 save percentage.
MAKING RANK
- The Cadets rank fifth in the country in scoring defense with 7.25 points per game.
- Army is sixth nationally in scoring margin at 5.50.
- LaMonica leads the squad with 23 ground balls and is 20th in the country in ground balls per game at 5.75.
- Barretto's 7.01 goals against average is good for fifth in college lacrosse.
PRESEASON HONORS
- Surdick has headlined the preseason awards for Army. The junior defender was named to the Inside Lacrosse Media Preseason All-American second team earlier this week.
- Surdick was also voted the Patriot League's Preseason Defensive Player of the year.
- Symmes joined his teammate on the All-American list as an honorable mention pick.
- He was also named to the All-Patriot League Preseason Team.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
- Following a hard-fought 11-10 triple overtime loss to #14 Syracuse, the Army West Point men's lacrosse team is now ranked 14th in the U.S. Inside Lacrosse Association/Nike Coaches Poll and 13th in the Maverik Media Poll.
- The Black Knights are now 3-1 on the year and 1-1 against ranked opponents.
FILLING THE GAPS
- Although it returned a wealth of its roster, Army will have to replace some key players from last season.
- On offense, the Black Knights will look to make up for Cole Johnson's point production.
- Johnson tallied 48 points for the Cadets on 29 goals and 19 assists.
- Nate Jones and Conor Glancy will look to fill Johnson's shoes on the attacking end.
- Perhaps the main loss to the Black Knights' is on the faceoff where specialist Dan Grabher had a .628 efficiency.
- On the defensive side of the ball, Reaves Klipstein was the gel that kept them working as a well-oiled machine.
- Dom Ricca has stepped into the communication role, while Jon LaMonica will play a key role with matchups.
- AJ Barretto returns to net for the Black Knights behind the strong defensive unit.
CLASS OF 2018
- The senior class boasts 35 wins in their careers in an Army uniform.
- They are one of 13 senior classes to have at least 34 career wins.
- The group accounts for 39 points, 72 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers through the first three games of the season.
- Army's seniors have produced half of the offensive points so far.
NATIONAL AUDIENCE
- The Black Knights will play on CBS Sports Network for three contests this season.
- The first matchup on national television is at Boston University on April 7 at 3:15 pm as part of tripleheader of Patriot League action.
- The following week, the greatest rivalry in college lacrosse, Army-Navy, takes center stage at Michie Stadium with a noon faceoff on April 14.
- The final regular season game for the Black Knights on CBS Sports Network will be the final Patriot League matchup of the season at Loyola at 7 p.m. on April 20.
- The semifinal and championship rounds of the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Championship will be televised by CBS Sports Network for the 10th-consecutive season.
- The semifinal round is set for Friday, April 27, with the championship game scheduled for Sunday, April 29.
- All three games will be hosted by the tournament's top overall seed.
- The Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Championship will also be televised live by CBS Sports Network on Sunday, May 6 at noon.
EARLY ARMY LEADERS
- Glancy leads the Black Knights offensively with 13 points. Jones boasts a team-leading 10 goals, while David Symmes has eight.
- Ragno boasts a .672 faceoff efficiency and is second on the team in ground balls with 15. LaMonica leads the squad with 23.
- AJ Barretto has been the Black Knights' starting goalie and has made 24 saves. He posts a 7.01 goals against average and a .490 save percentage.
