Cadets Trek West for Mary Nutter Classic

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team will resume action this weekend when the Black Knights trek to Palm Springs, Calif., to take part in the three-day Mary Nutter Classic.
The Cadets will open the weekend with a 1 p.m. ET game against UC Riverside on Saturday, before taking on Weber State immediately after. Two games are lined up for Sunday, starting with a matchup with Stanford at 3 p.m. ET and followed by an 8:30 p.m. ET meeting with Sacramento State. Â
Army will end the weekend with a game against UAB slated for Monday at 2:30 p.m. ET.

ARMY (1-4)
- The Black Knights went 1-4 at the River City Leadoff last weekend, picking up a victory over UConn.
- Kristen McPeek showed out in the opening weekend, pacing the squad with six hits for a .462 average at the plate, while reaching base safely in all five games.
- Renee Poirier posted her first complete game shutout win of the season after going seven strong innings, allowing just four hits against UConn last Friday.
- Amelia Trotter and Madison Cole both recorded a pair of doubles over the weekend.
UC RIVERSIDE (3-3)
- UC Riverside has started its 2018 campaign with an even 3-3 mark, grabbing wins against Rutgers, Maryland and San Diego State.
- The Highlanders are coming off a 4-1 home win over San Diego State, where eight different batters combined to tally 10 hits.
- Taylor Misfeldt got the start and went the distance while only allowing five hits and one earned run, while fanning six.
WEBER STATE (2-3)
- Weber State had a difficult opening weekend and went 2-3, but played in a bevy of close games, including a 6-3 loss to No. 1-ranked Oklahoma.
- Four different Wildcat batters have already tallied five or more hits on the season, including Ashlyn Visser, who leads the team with seven. Visser has been a power surge at the plate, hitting a double and two homers, while driving in a team-best five runs.
- In the circle Kirtlyn Bohling has struck out 10 batters in her last nine innings of work and holds the second-best ERA on the team at 2.21.
STANFORD (2-4)
- Stanford is off to a 2-4 start to its season, but is coming off a 9-1 victory over Boise State on Feb. 11.
- In the first six games, Montana Dixon and Teaghan Cowles have combined for 17 of the team's 31 hits. Dixon has notched a pair of doubles and two homers.
- Maddy Dwyer has been the most effective pitcher for Stanford to this point, compiling a 1.00 ERA in 21 innings of work.
SACRAMENTO STATE (1-3)
- Sacramento State took part in the Capital City Kickoff last weekend and went 1-3, with its lone win coming in the season opener against Santa Clara.
- Zamari Hamilton picked up nine hits in the four games for a team-best .563 average.
- In three appearances and two starts, Savanna Corr holds a 1.00 ERA in 14 innings with five strikeouts.
UAB (1-4)
- The Blazers opened at the USF Tournament and went 1-4, with their lone win coming against Illinois State.
- UAB is coming off a 15-4 loss to Georgia State and a 6-0 loss to Florida on Feb. 11.
- Through five games, the Blazers are being outscored, 35-8.
