Army Falls To Dartmouth At Ledyard Classic

HANOVER, N.H. - After a four-week break, the Army West Point hockey team returned to action Saturday, falling to Dartmouth 5-2. Â
After Army opened the scoring in the first period, the Big Green pulled away with five unanswered goals in the opening game of Dartmouth's Ledyard Classic. Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ Â
- The Black Knights got the scoring started on Saturday night when Kevin Dineen buried a loose puck from the slot for his first goal of the season 2:05 into the gameÂ
- The Big Green answered quickly, knotting the game at one at 3:11 in the first.Â
- Dartmouth followed with another, taking the lead with 11:23 remaining in the initial frame.Â
- The Black Knights surrendered both goals in the second period, as Dartmouth stretched their lead to 4-1.Â
- Dartmouth opened the scoring in the final frame as well, adding to their lead with 14:21 remaining in the game. Â
- Brendan Soucie answered with his fifth goal of the year, cutting the lead to 5-2 with 13:29 remaining. Â
- The junior took the puck from the right wall and stick-handled through three defenders into the slot, where he ripped the shot home for the unassisted goal. Â
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTESÂ Â
- Dineen's opening period tally was his first of the year and second of his two-year career at West Point.Â
- Mason Krueger was credited with the primary assist on the opening goal. The sophomore has nine points on the year.
- Senior Taylor Maruya snapped a six-game scoreless streak with his helper on the Dineen goal. He now has four assists on the season. Â
- Brendan Soucie's third period goal was the 27th of his three-year career. The junior now has 47 career points. Â
- Starting goaltender Jared Dempsey played the first two frames for the Black Knights, stopping 15 shots. Â
- Junior goaltender Matt Penta saw his first action in a Black Knights uniform, relieving Dempsey for the third period. Â
- Penta stopped seven of the eight shots he faced. Â
