WEST POINT, N.Y. – Behind 13 event victories, the Army West Point men's swimming and diving team defeated UConn, 199-95, on Saturday afternoon at Crandall Pool.
The Black Knights moved to 2-0 in the dual season after securing the win at their home pool, while the Huskies dropped to 1-3.

"We've made a lot of progress as a team," head coach Mickey Wender said. "Last year we took the meet down to the last relay, but this year was a lot different. We're progressing in our speed and power and are executing race plans well. The attitude and effort by our team today was excellent. It's a good step in the right direction and a confidence builder for Columbia next week."

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Behind 13 event victories, the Army West Point men's swimming and diving team defeated UConn, 199-95, on Saturday afternoon at Crandall Pool.
The Black Knights moved to 2-0 in the dual season after securing the win at their home pool, while the Huskies dropped to 1-3.
ARMY NOTABLES
- Army improved to 9-7 all-time versus UConn.
- It was the second straight year that the Black Knights topped the Huskies.
- The Cadets secured a win in their home opener for the second consecutive season.
- Jay Yang, Ty Dang, James Bilbrey and Brandon McCredie opened up the afternoon with a win in the 200 medley relay after finishing at 1:32.80.
- Tom Ottman (9:27.55) and Jack Venker (9:40.11) finished first and second, respectively, in the 1000 free.
- The top-three spots in the 200 free went to Kevin Lin (1:40.42), Peter Mikheyev (1:40.96) and Graham Ungrady (1:42.67).
- In the 100 back, Yang led the Black Knights with a second-place showing after posting a time 51.51. He was followed by Brian McKenrick, who finished right behind at 51.54.
- The 100 breast was highlighted by Dang's first-place time of 56.07, while Kevin Doo (56.65) and Evan Zhang (57.54) followed in second and third, respectively.
- Army once again finished in the top-three places, this time in the 200 fly. Bilbrey led the pack at 1:50.19, with Ellery (1:51.20) and Lin (1:54.41) trailing behind.
- Josh Zock secured the win in the 50 free at 20.66, while McCredie placed second at 20.84.
- In the 100 free, Doo topped the competition once he touched the wall at 45.00. Nathan Hein secured a third-place finish at 46.57. Doo would later go on to win the 100 fly at 48.53.
- Yang was the top finisher in the 200 back after he finished with a time of 1:50.60. He was followed by McKenrick, who took second at 1:51.57.
- Brady Almand (2:08.47) and Andrew Blomquist (2:10.92) finished first and second in the 200 breast.
- It was all Army in the 500 free as Lin (4:34.33), Ottman (4:39.29) and Ungrady (4:42.34) were the top-three finishers.
- Hudson Kay bested the competition on both boards. He posted a score of 286.42 on the 1-meter board and 311.48 on the 3-meter board.
