Black Knights Top Holy Cross in Four Sets

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Off to a hot start in the match, the Army West Point volleyball team defeated Holy Cross on the road 3-1 on Friday night.

The Black Knights captured the first two sets, but the Crusaders came back in the third to claim their only set victory. Army came back to dominate Holy Cross in the fourth to clinch the match, 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET (Army 25, Holy Cross 16)
- The Black Knights were hot in the first set as senior captain Courtney Horace led the way with five kills.
- Nikki Lum produced six assists in the set, while Ana Oglivie had five digs.
- Army hit .400 in the set committing zero attacking errors.
SECOND SET (Army 25, Holy Cross 19)
- The Cadets continued on their momentum in the second set.
- Army's .222 - .135 edge in hitting percentage over the Crusaders was the difference maker.
- Allie Strong and Horace each had three kill sin the set.
- Lum continued to pace the Black Knights' offense with seven assists.
THIRD SET (Holy Cross 25, Army 22)
- The third set was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams featuring seven tie scores and four lead changes.
- Strong had a four-kill performance, while Monica Eckford produced three.
- Eckford also contributed three block assists.
- The Crusaders pulled ahead to take the set 25-22.
FOURTH SET (Army 25, Holy Cross 15)
- Army rallied back in the fourth to clinch the match.
- Strong dominated in the set with seven kills to lead both sides.
- Lisa Sullivan and Emmy Barnhorst added three as well.
- Lum dished out eight assists and Hannah Presley had seven.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Strong led both sides with 15 kills. She also added nine digs in the match and a service ace.
- Horace finished with nine kills as Sullivan and Barnhorst each tallied eight.
- Lum had 28 assists and Presley stepped in to help with 19.
- Oglivie tallied 24 digs, five assists as well as two service aces.
- Army hit .260 on the night and had seven total blocks.
