Army Hosts Mercyhurst for Two-Game Series

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point hockey team welcomes head coach Brian Riley's sons to town who are members of the Mercyhurst hockey team. The Black Knights host the Lakers for a two-game series.

Friday night's game features the second annual Wieners of West Point race on the ice. Saturday will be a special one as the family of Maj. Thomas Kennedy will be dropping the puck to cap-off alumni weekend for the program. After the game Saturday night, fans are welcome to join the team for a Skate with the Black Knights event with the team. Anyone can participate, fans are just asked to bring their skates and helmets to the game.

- The Black Knights improved to fourth in Atlantic Hockey standings after gaining three points over Bentley with a tie and victory over Bentley last weekend.
- Michael Wilson leads the Black Knights with 13 goals and eight assists for 21 points.
- He is the only Cadet to record a multi-goal game this season, and he has accomplished the feat twice.
- Zach Evancho had a standout weekend against the Falcons with a pair of assists in Friday's contest for his second multi-point performance of the year.
- Jared Dempsey continues to thrive and notched the team's shutout two weeks ago with 34 saves.

- Mercyhurst is riding a five-game unbeaten streak with a sweep over Niagara, both by scores of 3-2, a win over RIT (6-3), a win over AIC (3-1) and a tie versus the Yellow Jackets (4-4).
- The Lakers are captained by Jack Riley, son of Coach Riley, who is also up for the Hobey Baker Award. Youngest son Brendan Riley is also on the team and scored his first pair of collegiate goals in the team's win over Niagara.
- Derek Barach leads the Hurst team with 23 points on nine goals and 14 assists.
- Jack is first on the team in goals with 10 and also boasts three on the power play. However, the team leader in man-advantage goals is Jon Charbonneau with five.
LAST TIME OUT
- Army defeated the Royal Military College 5-0 Saturday night in Kingston, Ontario, for its seventh straight win.
- Cole Bruns completed his career with a perfect 4-0 record against the Paladins. Two of his wins were shutouts.
- Wilson notched two power play goals to give Army an early lead.
- In the third period, Tucker DeYoung netted his first goal for the Black Knights, while yearling Brendan Soucie and firstie Tyler Pham also scored for Army.
- All the goal scorers netted their first goals against RMC.
16-straight
- The Black Knights have seen success on its penalty kill throughout the season.
- Army continues to execute and has now denied 16-straight power plays to its opponents.
- The team has an efficiency of .889 which ranks the Black Knights second in the country.
- Thanks to Brendan Soucie's goal on Friday, Army notched its first shorthanded score of the season.
POWER PLAY PROWESS
- Army has also seen recent success in its other special teams unit - on the power play.
- The Black Knights have now scored on the man-advantage for three games in a row.
- This past weekend, Army had three power play goals, fueled by Conor Andrle who notched one and Wilson who had the other two.
- Wilson now averages 0.30 power play goals per game and ranks fifth in the nation.
