Army Forces Tie with Bentley in Series Opener

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West point hockey team showed its resiliency by earning three game-tying goals against Bentley as the two sides skated to a 3-3 tie in the series opener on Friday night at Tate Rink.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Army picked up one point with the tie to increase its point total in Atlantic Hockey to 16.
- The Black Knights held the Falcons scoreless on seven power-play opportunities.
- It was the best showing by the unit since forcing AIC to go 0-for-7 on Oct. 7.
- Brendan Soucie netted Army's first short-handed goal of the season.
- The tally was Soucie's fourth goal of the season and 20th of his career.
- Blake Box buried his first goal of the year and first since Jan. 28, 2017, at Air Force.
- Conor Andrle earned his second of the year and 33rd of his career to tie the game.
- Zach Evancho was the playmaker tonight with two assists for a career-high.
- It marked the sophomore's eighth multi-point game.
- Tyler Pham and also picked up an assist on the night.
- Cole Bruns made 28 saves in his return to the crease after missing the last six games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
PERIOD ONE (ARMY 0 – BENT 0)
- The Falcons earned the first power play of the game after a cross check was issued to the Black Knights. Bruns made a point-blank save as Army returned to even strength to keep the score knotted at 0-0.
- Moments later, Taylor Maruya took a shot wide left before Zach Evancho deked the goalie, but his shot was also wide of the goal.
- With 3:59 to go in the first period, Bentley netted a goal only to have it called back due to contact with Bruns.
- The Black Knights outshot the Falcons 17-5 in the first period.
PERIOD TWO (ARMY 2 – BENT 2)
- Bentley came out strong in the second with a goal 5:04 into the period. Tanner Jago got one through from the blue line to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
- Army's special teams shined at the 13:44 mark when Soucie sniped a top shelf shorthanded goal to tie things up.
- The Falcons answered two minutes later with another goal.
- The Black Knights countered with their second goal of the period when Pham stole the puck in the Army zone and carried it up the ice. Evancho dropped the puck back to Box who drove it home on the rush.
PERIOD THREE (ARMY 3 – BENT 3)
- The two teams traded goals yet again in the third which were tallied four minutes apart.
- Bentley's came at four minutes in, while Army's was scored on the power play with 11:34 on the clock.
- Andrle netted his second of the season after Evancho picked the puck just outside the Bentley blue line and found Andrle for the goal.
- Bruns was the star of the six-minute mark with countless saves to maintain Army's tie score and push the game to overtime.
OVERTIME (ARMY 3 – BENT 3)
- The Prarie Grove, Ill., native came up big yet again in overtime, making a pair of key stops in the extra period. His most important save came with 1:29 remaining. A shot from the point trickled through and was drifting towards the net, but Bruns kicked out his right pad at the last second to prevent the goal.
- Nearly two minutes into the extra period, Krueger came around from the back of the net, turned, and fired a challenging shot on goal that handcuffed Pelino.
