ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND MATCH NOTES
- Vanessa Wesley led the Black Knights with 10.5 points on nine kills and 1.5 blocks. She also hit .474 on the night.
- Carolyn Bockrath followed with eight kills, while Sydney Morriss had seven and Courtney Horace had four.
- Nikki Lum posted 15 assists as Haven Bethune (9) and Hannah Presley (8) also saw action in the setters position.
- Ana Oglivie led both sides with 14 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE (25-22 American)
- The Eagles jumped out to take an early lead in the set. Army was able to tie the score two times, but other than their 1-0 lead up front, it did not regain the advantage.
- Late in the set, the Black Knights went on a 6-2 run to come within three at 23-20.
- Army fought until the end, but American clinched the set 25-22.
- Wesley notched five kills on a .556 hitting percentage.
SET TWO (25-11 American)
- American raced ahead 13-4 in the second set and hit collectively at .429.
- Horace came in for Army and posted three kills to lead the set, while Wesley and Morriss each recorded two.
SET THREE (25-15 American)
- The third set featured a strong Eagles front as they went ahead 18-8 before going on a 7-1 run to claim a 22-9 lead.
- The Black Knights rallied late with a 4-0 run, but American clinched the set 25-15 to take the match.
- Bockrath led the Black Knights with five kills in the set.
- Welsey notched two block assists in the stretch.
UP NEXT
- Army will host Colgate next Friday before traveling to Holy Cross on Sunday.
