SOUTH KENT, Conn. – With one round under its belt, the Army West Point golf team ranks tied for sixth at the Hartford Hawks Invitational with a one-over score of 289.
"I'm proud of the way the guys played today," head coach Chad Bagley said. "With 20 teams and over 110 players, it was a long day trying to get 36 holes in. We've got two holes to finish up round two tomorrow morning, but I'm very pleased with the poise and focus our cadet-athletes demonstrated all day. We've got great senior leadership on the team; but it's also great to see that our plebe class is already developing."
James McKee leads the Black Knights with a one-under score of 71 to rank tied for 12th. Nick Turner is also tied for the 22nd spot with an even score of 72.
Â
Matt Plunkett and Dean Sakata are both tied for 35th place with 73 strokes each to be one-over after the first day of competition. Joseph Gerardi closed out the Black Knight finishers on the day with a score of 82 (+10).
The second round was called due to darkness and will be completed on Tuesday, along with the final round. The day is set to kick off at 8 a.m.
Â
Central Florida is in the lead after the first round at -15, while Towson (-5) and Connecticut (-3) rounded out the top three.
