Overtime Thriller Lifts Army Past SDSU

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Sophomore Rex Epps tallied the game-winner with 43 ticks remaining to hand Army West Point men's soccer a 1-0 overtime victory over visiting San Diego State.
The Black Knights shift to 1-0 and are now 4-1-1 in season openers over the last six years. The Aztecs, who were picked to finish fourth in the Pac-12 Preseason Poll, dip to 0-1.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Epps netted his sixth career game-winning goal.
- This was the second consecutive year that Army topped its first opponent of the season, as the Black Knights defeated Air Force 3-1 last year at Clinton Field.
- Army's last overtime victory came on the road at Colgate on Oct. 26 of last season, when the Black Knights claimed a 2-1 double-overtime win.
- In their last five overtime appearances, the Cadets hold a 2-1-2 record.
- Freshmen Roman Guiseppi, Christian Takaki and Deco Costa each made their collegiate debut and started for Army, logging valuable minutes.
- Army's win came against a San Diego State program that ranked 10th in the nation last year in goals-against average (0.63), allowing just 13 scores in 19 games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 98th minute, a pair of Army shots were blocked in the box, before Kennan O'Shea got a touch on the ball and played it to Epps, who buried the shot in the low right corner to seal the victory for the Black Knights.
UP NEXT
- Army will head out to Long Island on Monday for a 7 p.m. showdown against a Stony Brook squad that finished with a 9-6-3 overall record last year.
