Army Ready for Weekend Set with ‘Cuse, Quinnipiac

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's soccer team returns to the pitch with matches against Syracuse and Quinnipiac this weekend.
The Black Knights host the Orange on Thursday for a 7 p.m., match at Clinton Field before traveling to Quinnipiac on Sunday at 1 p.m.
ARMY (1-0-1, 0-0-0 Patriot League)
• The Black Knights have gotten out to a quick start, going undefeated through the first two games for the first time since 2008.
• It is also the first time Army has kept its first two opponents off the scoreboard since 1996.
• Army nearly swept the Patriot League's first round of weekly awards as Lauryn Westman (Offensive Player of the Week), Clare Shea (Midfielder of the Week), Sydney Witham (Defensive Player of the Week) and Sydney Cassalia (Rookie of the Week) were recognized.
• Westman netted her first-career goal in the 82nd minute of the season-opener against Iona to give the Black Knights a 1-0 victory.
• Witham assisted on the goal, recording the first point of her career. She also guided a defensive line that allowed just 13 shots in the two games and only three on goal.
• Shea was an integral component for the Black Knights in their transition from defense to offense, posting a team-high seven shots and four on net.
• Cassalia became the first Army goalkeeper since 2004 to earn a shutout victory in her career debut and made three saves on the week.

SYRACUSE (1-0-1, 0-0-0 ACC)
• Army is an even 2-2-0 in the all-time series with Syracuse, dating back to 1996.
• The Orange opened their season with a 2-0 victory over the reigning Patriot League champion, Bucknell. Sydney Brackett accounted for both scores in the 12th and 35th minutes.
• Syracuse also played to a 1-1 draw against No. 18 Connecticut on Monday. Alex Lamontagne opened the scoring in the 75th minute to put the Orange ahead on a rebound goal.
• Goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan posted her 17th-career shutout against the Bison and has made 13 saves on the season while only allowing one goal.

• Army won its only prior meeting with Quinnipiac, taking a 3-0 decision in 2010.
• The Black Knights and Bobcats will play the first-ever collegiate game at Quinnipiac's newly-renovated turf stadium.
• Quinnipiac also opened its season facing a Patriot League opponent, capturing a thrilling 4-3 overtime win at Holy Cross on Thursday.
• Nadja Gill provided the game winner in the 97th minute on her second score of the match.
• Gill leads the Bobcats with five points on the season with two goals and an assist on Kelsey Goldring's goal in the 81st minute versus the Crusaders.
• Quinnipiac continued its season on Monday, suffering a 3-0 road loss at Drexel.
• Quinnipiac has split time between two goalkeepers early in the 2017 campaign with Olivia Myszewski and Devan Malcolm seeing the pitch.
• Myszewski started both games as the keeper of record with a goals-against average of 3.18 and a save percentage of .545.
• Malcolm played the second half against the Dragons, allowing one goal with three saves.
