Army Places Second at Tri-Meet

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –The Army West Point gymnastics team finished second in a tri-meet with Navy and Springfield on Sunday.

The Midshipmen were first on the day with 401.400 points and were followed by the Cadets (391.400) and Springfield (380.500).

ARMY HIGHLIHTS AND MEET NOTES
- The Black Knights' premier event of the day was on the pommel horse where they outscored Navy 68.300-66.950.
- The Midshipmen took home the top-three spots in the rings, but it was Leo Genders who topped the competition on vault to keep the score close heading to the halfway point of the meet.
- In the all-around, Jonny Tang topped the day with 81.800 points for the Mids. Nathan Goff was second (80.850) followed by Seth Cannon (75.700) as the only all-around competitors of the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Andre Hufnagel championed the event with a mark of 14.500. He edged the second-best finisher by 0.450 points. Elijah-Ty Phelps rounded-out the top three competitors by posting a 13.900.
- Navy just outscored Army on the vault by 0.300 points. Genders was first in the event with a 14.450. Phelps and F. Bradley from Navy tied for second on the vault after both turning out scores of 14.300.
- Goff was the Cadets' top finisher on the parallel bars with a tied for fourth score of 13.200.
- He then turned around to champion the high bar with a 13.950 routine. J. Tang (13.800) and T. West (13.700) of Navy tied for second which brought Genders to fourth with a mark of 13.500.
UP NEXT
- The Black Knights return to Springfield next Sunday for a head-to-head meet at 1 p.m.
