HOW IT HAPPENED
- Austen Zente was hit by a pitch during the Panthers first at bat of the opening inning to place a runner on first. He stole second before Army was able to earn the first out. Jordan Sergent followed that up with a walk on the ensuing play. During the next at bat, the two base runners stole a bag shifting them both into scoring position. Giovinco then earned a big strikeout but on the ensuing play Mason drilled a double to right center to bring home the game's first two runs.
- Neither team was able to get anything going over the next two innings before the home team posted two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Carson Jackson started the inning singling to left field. Mason then reached base before taking second on the ensuing at bat after a throwing error by Army. Cody Oerther loaded the bases during the next play with a bunt single. The Black Knights then tried to hold the Panthers in check by recording the first two outs of the inning, but a single up the middle from Conner Dunbar handed the hosts a 4-0 edge.
- Army answered with two runs of its own in the top of the fifth. Rosoff started things off by tripling to right center. During the next at bat he scored thanks to a throwing error by the catcher. The Panthers then tallied the first out but Lee followed things up by doubling down the left field line. Crompton hit a sacrifice bunt on the ensuing play to advance Lee over to third. On the next at bat, Lee scored what would be Army's final run of the day on a wild pitch.
- The Black Knights tried to rally in the top of the ninth and even loaded the bases but weren't able to bring home the needed runs.
