Army to Face Navy in Annapolis

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's track and field is traveling to Annapolis, Md., to compete in the Army-Navy Star Meet as part of the Star Series presented by USAA.

The last time that the Black Knights met the Midshipmen in a dual meet was in the indoor season at West Point. The Cadets pulled out an upset victory taking down Navy by a score of 97-84 for the first time in five years. The last time that Army has won the outdoor meet was back in 2011 down in Annapolis.

Some key highlights from the track came with a victory in the mile by freshman Keagan Smith (4:08.23), a first place finish in the 60-meter dash (6.80s) and 200-meter dash (21.78s) by Kevin Dyer and a victory from senior captain Trevor Toucton in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.23. The 4x400 meter relay team of Tyler Davis, Tyrell Maddox, Bradley Gibson and Jose Santana sealed the meet edging out Navy with a time of 3:18.30.

In the field events, Lee Bares kicked things off reaching 5.10 meters, just .13 meters shy of the Army-Navy record, in his first place finish in the pole vault. Jeff Giannettino captured first in the high jump with a leap of 2.12 meters.

In their last outdoor competition, the Black Knights placed second at the Penn Challenge collecting 134 points. The 4x100 meter relay team of Dyer, Santana, Davis and Ben Sims collected gold with a time of 40.70s. Sims continued his success with a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash clocking a time of 10.57s. The Cadets went one, two in the 1500 meter run led by Smith (3:48.31) and Touchton (3:48.80). In the steeplechase senior Jacob Fong stood atop the podium with a time of 5:59.44. Bares was the lone Army competitor to earn gold in the field events reaching 5.20 meter in the pole vault.
